Breast Implants have been around since the 1895. Since then, many different types of breast implants have been used. Many women are interested in augmenting the size of their breast and todays technology allows for the breast implants to last for decades.

Type of Implants:
Allergan and Mentor are two manufacturer of breast implants that Dr. Maguire uses. A patient has to decide if they want Saline or Silicone. There is a difference between Saline Implants and Silicone Implants. For example, the Saline-filled implants shell is made of silicone and are surgically inserted into the breast area empty; Which make the incision scar smaller. Most patients feel that Silicone Implants have a better feel and more of a realistic look than Saline-filled Implants.
Types of Procedures:
Dr. Maguire performs the Subglandular and Submuscular implant pocket placement. With a Subglandular pocket placement the Saline-filled or Silicone implant is placed betweeb the breast tissue and the pectoralis muscle. With a Submuscular implant pocket placement, the implant is placed below the pectoralis muscle. Dr. Maguire will advise you on the best placement of the implant for you.
Sugery Locations:
Dr. Maguire operates at any Willis Knighton Hostpital as well as the Shreveport Surgery Center and other Hospitals in North West Louisiana.
Surgery Fee:
The price for a breast implant operation differs according to what type of implant you will need and where the procedure will be performed. There are basically four fees that the patient is reponsible to pay.
1. Surgeon Fee - Dr. Maguire's fee for operating.
2. Facility Fee - The Hospital fee for allowing Dr. Maguire operate.
3. Anethesia Fee - The fee the anethesiologist charges to sedate you during the operation.
4. Breast Implants Fee - Saline-filled Implants are less expensive that Silicone.
Recovery:
The recovery times for patients who had their breasts augmented differ according to their level of activity. Patients who have the breast implants inserted under the muscle take longer to heal because the muscle area gets cut. Patients are cautioned against smoking during this time period because complications could occur. The scars from the operation usually last about six weeks or longer and may fade after several months.
Complications:
As with every surgery there is potential for complications. Some of the most common problems are: reaction to anesthesia, post operative bleeding or fluid collection, infection where the incision was made, pain in the breast area and/or loss of sensation, scarring, wrinkling of the skin area to name a few. Revision:
Patients that have their breasts augmented will most likely need to have additional surgery over the course of their live. Breast Implants do not last forever! A patient may need a re-operation as early as two years and should always consider a re-operation every seven years. |
